Dental Assisting Training Course

Students will be given an outline each week of the required textbook and workbook at home study material. On Saturdays students will come prepared to take quizzes and tests on what they studied throughout the week. If students do not pass the quizzes or tests they will be sent back with their book to find the correct answers. This is done in order to prepare students for taking the NELDA exam that can help advance their career. The NELDA exam in not required, but strongly recommended to better the students chance at getting hired, increase learning potential and continuing their education. In the afternoon students will pass off required clinical competencies.

Skills Learned During Dental Assisting Training:

  • Taking radiographs (X-rays)
  • Taking impressions
  • Fabricating bleach trays
  • Participating in four-handed assisting dentistry
  • Placing temporary crowns
  • Assisting during sedation and general anesthesia
  • Cleaning prophylaxis
  • Giving oral health instructions
  • Applying sealants
  • Charting and record-keeping
  • Disinfecting and sterilizing
  • Performing other specialty practices

In addition, you will learn HIPAA compliance and ethics guidelines for your new profession, as well as preparation to sit for the NELDA exam.
